Chick-fil-A is preparing for a major expansion across Western Pennsylvania, with nine new locally owned and operated restaurants planned by the end of 2028.

The expansion will stretch across the greater Pittsburgh area and communities along the Interstate 80 corridor, as well as the Johnstown-Altoona-State College region. According to Chick-fil-A, the new restaurants are expected to create approximately 1,080 jobs across the region.

Nine Communities Are in Line for New Restaurants

North of Pittsburgh, Chick-fil-A plans to open a restaurant in Mars in October 2026, followed by a location in Butler in spring 2027 and another in Gibsonia in 2028.

East of Pittsburgh, Indiana is scheduled to receive a restaurant in spring 2027, while additional locations are planned for Murrysville, Latrobe, and Johnstown by the end of 2028.

Mars Is Up First

Chick-fil-A’s Mars location, which will serve the Valencia community, is scheduled to open on October 1, 2026. The company says the restaurant is expected to create approximately 100 jobs.

The Restaurants Will Be Locally Owned and Operated

The company says the Western Pennsylvania expansion is intended to create more opportunities for local ownership while also creating jobs and developing leaders within its restaurants.

Each New Restaurant Will Bring a Community Donation

For each of the nine new restaurants, Chick-fil-A says it will donate $25,000 to a Feeding America partner food bank or affiliate. If all nine planned restaurants open as announced, that would total up to $225,000 in donations tied to the expansion.

The company says it has donated $585,000 toward hunger-relief efforts across Pennsylvania since 2020, including $125,000 in Western Pennsylvania during that period.

The Expansion Covers a Wide Area

Chick-fil-A says the new locations will extend from Pennsylvania’s western border with Ohio toward the Interstate 99 corridor and south to the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

That geographic spread means the expansion will reach suburban communities, smaller cities, and areas farther from Pittsburgh’s urban core.

What Happens Next?

Mars is scheduled for October 2026, followed by Indiana and Butler in spring 2027. The remaining locations in Gibsonia, Hermitage, DuBois, Murrysville, Latrobe, and Johnstown are planned for 2028.

Opening dates may change as construction and development progress, so residents should watch for individual announcements as each project moves forward
