Jackson police have arrested a second person and charged him with murder in the death of Tasia Fortune, a 29-year-old woman who was found hanging from a tree behind a vacant home in west Jackson on Aug. 3.
Police said they arrested and charged Earnest Lloyd Jr., 25, in the case.

Authorities also said they have obtained an arrest warrant for an unnamed third suspect as the investigation continues.
The arrests mark another development in a case that has drawn attention in Jackson as investigators work to determine what happened to Fortune.

The charges announced by police are allegations, and neither Lloyd nor anyone else charged in the case has been found guilty.

According to police, Fortune was found in a hanging position behind a vacant home in west Jackson. Mississippi Today reported the location as the 500 block of Road of Remembrance, while other local reporting confirmed the Aug. 3 discovery behind a vacant home.

Jackson Police Chief RaShall Brackney announced Lloyd’s arrest during a Jackson City Council meeting. Police have attributed the murder charge against Lloyd to the department’s investigation.
Lloyd was arrested on Sept. 22 and appeared in court on Sept. 23, according to local reports. During that initial appearance, he pleaded not guilty and was denied bond.
The case also includes an earlier arrest. Jarques Ratliff, 51, was arrested on Sept. 11 and was the first person charged with murder in connection with Fortune’s death. Ratliff has pleaded not guilty and remains jailed without bond.
Police have not released the identity of the third suspect connected to the warrant. Authorities said they are not releasing the name, and the investigation remains active.

For Jackson residents, the latest arrests provide new information about the direction of the investigation while leaving important questions unanswered. Police have announced charges and court developments, but details about the full circumstances surrounding Fortune’s death have not all been made public.
The medical examiner’s office classified Fortune’s death as a homicide, according to reporting on Chief Brackney’s remarks. However, the manner of death has not been publicly released, and authorities have not provided a full public account of the events that led to her death.
Officials have continued to emphasize that the case remains under active investigation. The charges against Lloyd and Ratliff are part of the legal process, and the court system will address the allegations.

The investigation has included police efforts to identify and locate additional people connected to the case. Authorities have confirmed they obtained a warrant for another suspect, but have not released any additional identifying information.

The second arrest follows weeks of police work after authorities found Fortune behind the vacant west Jackson home. As the case moves forward, court proceedings and additional information from investigators are expected to provide more details about the allegations and evidence involved.

For now, the confirmed developments include two murder charges, one additional suspect sought by police, and ongoing legal proceedings for the two men already charged.
Anyone following the case can look for updates from Jackson police and court proceedings as authorities provide more information. The investigation remains pending, and the outcome will be determined through the legal process.
