The post Judge Judy Steps Away From TV as Her Son Takes Over the Family Courtroom Legacy first appeared on Crafting Your Home.
After nearly three decades on courtroom television, Judge Judy Sheindlin is preparing to step away from the camera, and her successor knows the courtroom well.
The 83-year-old television personality has announced that she will retire from on-camera work when her current series, Judy Justice, concludes in October. Her departure marks the end of a television career that began in 1996 with Judge Judy and continued through her streaming courtroom series.
But the family connection to televised justice will continue. Sheindlin is backing her son, Adam Levy, as he launches his own courtroom program, Adam’s Law. The new syndicated series is scheduled to premiere September 14.

Sheindlin first became a household name when Judge Judy premiered in 1996. The syndicated series ran for 25 seasons and made her one of daytime television’s most recognizable figures.
When that show ended in 2021, Sheindlin wasn’t finished with courtroom television. She returned with Judy Justice, which brought her distinctive approach to resolving small-claims disputes to Prime Video.
That chapter is now coming to a close. The final episode of Judy Justice is scheduled for October 22, ending roughly 30 years of regular television appearances for Sheindlin.
Her decision isn’t simply about leaving the entertainment business altogether. Sheindlin has indicated that she wants to move away from the demands of being in front of the camera while continuing to pursue projects that interest her.
She will also remain involved behind the scenes.
Adam Levy is stepping into the spotlight.
Sheindlin’s son, Adam Levy, is taking the lead in Adam’s Law, giving viewers a new member of the family to watch in a courtroom setting.
Levy is not new to law or television. He earned his law degree from Hofstra Law School and spent years working in the legal profession, including serving as district attorney in Putnam County, New York.
He has also already appeared on television as one of the judges on Tribunal Justice, another courtroom program created by Sheindlin.
His new series, however, presents a different challenge. Rather than appearing as part of a panel, Levy will lead his own courtroom show.
Sheindlin has publicly said she’s confident her son is ready for that responsibility. She has described him as capable of carrying an unscripted half-hour program on his own, a skill central to her own television success.
Sheindlin isn’t disappearing completely.
Although viewers will no longer see Sheindlin regularly presiding over cases, she isn’t leaving the industry entirely.
She plans to produce Adam’s Law, meaning her influence will remain part of the new show even as Levy becomes the person viewers see in the courtroom.
That makes the transition less of a complete goodbye and more of a change in roles. After years as the central figure on camera, Sheindlin is moving behind the scenes while letting her son establish his own presence.
She is also developing other creative projects, including an animated project inspired by the viral “Baby Judge Judy” videos that have circulated online.
A new chapter for a familiar television family
For viewers who have followed Sheindlin since the 1990s, the transition represents the end of a particularly long chapter in daytime and courtroom television.
But her legacy won’t simply disappear when Judy Justice ends.
Instead, the arrival of Adam’s Law gives the family another opportunity to remain part of the courtroom-TV landscape. Levy brings his own legal career and television experience to the role, while his mother will continue supporting the project from the production side.
Sheindlin has said she feels content about reaching this point in her career. After decades on television, she now has the opportunity to spend more time with family, pursue other interests and develop projects without having to remain in front of the cameras.
For fans, however, the biggest change will be seeing someone else behind the courtroom desk.
Judge Judy’s television era may be coming to an end, but with Adam Levy preparing to take center stage, the family courtroom story is continuing.
