The Post Florida Mother and 22-Year-Old Son Arrested For Incest After She Admits They Had Sex About 100 Times, Sheriff Says; first appeared on Crafting Your Home.

A domestic-violence call in Polk County, Florida, led deputies into a separate investigation that resulted in incest charges against a mother and her adult son, authorities said.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a reported domestic dispute at a Lakeland residence in August. What began as an investigation into an alleged battery complaint later expanded after authorities said they received statements about an alleged sexual relationship between the two family members.

The case has drawn attention because of the unusual allegations, but officials have emphasized that the criminal charges are separate matters that must be handled through the court system. Both defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

A Domestic Call Led Deputies to a Larger Investigation

Authorities said deputies initially responded after Christina Clemens, 46, reported that her adult son, Shane Clemens, 22, had battered her.

According to Sheriff Grady Judd, Shane Clemens was arrested on an allegation of domestic-violence battery. During the investigation, deputies said they learned of an alleged sexual relationship between the two.

Officials said Shane later told investigators that the relationship began after he turned 18. Publicly available reports reviewed in the case do not establish that the alleged conduct began before he was an adult.

Authorities Say Both Face Incest Charges

Following the investigation, both Christina Clemens and Shane Clemens were charged with incest, according to authorities.

Christina Clemens also faces an allegation of living in open adultery, while Shane Clemens continues to face the separate domestic-violence battery allegation connected to the original call.

The charges are allegations, not convictions. Prosecutors must prove each charge in court, and the defendants retain the presumption of innocence throughout the legal process.

Why the Allegations Are a Legal Issue in Florida

The case involves two adults, but Florida law separately prohibits sexual intercourse between certain close relatives.

Under Florida’s incest statute, knowingly marrying or engaging in sexual intercourse with a close blood relative, including a lineal relative, is classified as a third-degree felony. The law defines the prohibited conduct regardless of whether both people are adults.

The state also has a separate law addressing living in an open state of adultery, which is classified as a second-degree misdemeanor.

The Alleged Relationship Came to Light During the Investigation

According to authorities, the alleged relationship was not discovered through a separate report but emerged during the investigation that followed the domestic call.

Sheriff Judd said investigators received statements from both individuals regarding the alleged relationship. Authorities also attributed a claim about the frequency of sexual contact to statements made during the investigation. Those details remain allegations and would need to be addressed through the legal process.

A Case With Two Separate Allegations

Although the allegations are connected by the same investigation, officials have treated the matters separately.

The first issue involved the reported domestic dispute and the allegation of battery. The second involved the alleged incestuous relationship and the related criminal charges.

A charge does not prove that a crime occurred. The court process will determine whether prosecutors can establish the allegations beyond the required legal standard.

What Happens Next

As the case moves forward, court filings, hearings, and any future evidence will provide more information about the allegations.

Criminal cases involving family members can attract significant public attention, but authorities have urged the public to focus on verified facts rather than speculation.

For now, the case remains an active criminal matter involving allegations made by law enforcement, with both defendants awaiting further court proceedings.

The case highlights how a single emergency call can lead investigators to uncover separate allegations requiring different legal reviews.

While the circumstances have drawn widespread attention, the outcome will depend on evidence presented in court, not public reaction.
