Before Trace Adkins became one of country music’s most recognizable voices, he survived a terrifying moment that nearly changed the course of his life forever.

The bullet entered beneath his left arm and traveled through his chest before exiting under his right arm. Adkins said the shot passed through his heart and both lungs, leaving him with injuries doctors considered extremely serious.
“It was a kill shot,” Adkins said while describing the moment.
The singer explained that his body immediately reacted to the trauma. Rather than feeling overwhelming pain right away, he said shock took over as he tried to process what had happened.
