Love Island USA fans spent last summer rooting for Clarke Carraway and Taylor Williams to beat the odds, and for almost a year, they did exactly that.
The pair, who fell for each other after Clarke entered the villa during Casa Amor on Season 7, managed to stay together through the show’s brutal elimination process, a rocky love triangle, and the notoriously difficult transition into a long-distance relationship once the cameras stopped rolling.
Now, nearly a year later, that same couple is at the center of breakup speculation, and neither of them has fully put the rumors to rest.
The split talk kicked off after the gossip Instagram account @TooHotTeaa2 posted that Clarke and Taylor had reportedly called it quits, citing long distance and unspecified “differences” between the two.
A “close source” was quoted saying the two had “ended things due to long distance and their differences,” while adding that they remained on good terms.
According to that same source, there were no hard feelings between the pair, who reportedly “remain close friends” and still have “a lot of love for each other.”
As of now, that gossip account post remains the origin point of the breakup claim, since neither Clarke nor Taylor has issued a formal statement confirming or denying it themselves.
Fans Started Digging Through Clarke’s Social Media for Clues

Once the rumor started circulating, plenty of Love Island fans did what they do best and went looking for supporting evidence across both exes’ social media accounts.
According to one fan’s account of a recent livestream, Clarke appeared to mute anyone who mentioned Taylor’s name while she was interacting with viewers online, a detail that only added fuel to the speculation already spreading across fan pages and comment sections.
That kind of digital detective work has become something of a tradition among Love Island fans, who have tracked the ups and downs of nearly every Season 7 couple with the same intensity people usually reserve for their own friend groups.
The breakup chatter also arrived alongside a separate wave of speculation involving videos that appeared to show Taylor with another woman, which quickly spiraled into cheating accusations across TikTok and other platforms.
Importantly, neither Clarke nor Taylor has publicly accused the other of infidelity, and nothing reported so far has tied the alleged split directly to those cheating rumors rather than to the long-distance strain the couple has talked about openly since leaving the villa.
The timing of everything overlapping at once, however, made it easy for online audiences to connect dots that may or may not actually be related.
Adding to the sense that something is genuinely shifting, the rumors about Clarke and Taylor emerged just days after news broke that fellow Season 7 couple Nic Vansteenberghe and Olandria Carthen had also called off their relationship.
That timing left fans feeling like they were watching two of the show’s most talked-about pairings unravel within the same stretch of days, a rough moment for anyone still holding out hope that this particular season’s love stories might hold up better than most reality TV romances tend to.
Taylor Addressed the Rumors on Snapchat, but He Didn’t Deny Anything
On July 29, not long after the gossip account’s post began circulating, Taylor responded to a handful of fan messages on Snapchat, and his replies did little to settle the speculation.
When one fan asked how he manages to stay “unfazed by rumors the internet throws at you every 2 secs,” Taylor brushed the question off rather than addressing it directly.
“I got better things to do with my time rather than respond to shi that ain’t real,” he wrote, a response that reads more like frustration with the constant chatter than a firm denial of the breakup itself.
Another fan told Taylor they were sorry he still had to deal with “weird people” a full year after leaving the villa, and Taylor doubled down on that same sentiment rather than clarifying his relationship status.
Notably, at no point in either exchange did he explicitly say that he and Clarke were still together, which many fans interpreted as at least a partial confirmation that something had indeed changed between the two of them.
Whether that reading is accurate or simply the product of an internet primed to analyze every word a reality star posts, Taylor’s own responses have done more to keep the story alive than to put it to rest.
A Relationship Built on Beating the Odds From the Very Start
Clarke and Taylor’s connection was never simple, which is part of why so many fans became invested in it in the first place.
Taylor spent the early weeks of Season 7 coupled up with Olandria Carthen, and when Clarke entered the villa during Casa Amor, his choice to pursue a new connection with her instead cost him a significant amount of public goodwill.
Despite that rocky start, the two pushed forward, and just before their elimination from the villa in Episode 32, Taylor organized a full cheer routine with the other male islanders to ask Clarke to be exclusive, a moment Clarke later described as her favorite from her entire time on the show.
Even after their elimination, both Clarke and Taylor spoke confidently about their plans to make a long-distance relationship work, with Clarke splitting time around Charlotte and Taylor based near his family’s ranch in Oklahoma.
“I’m going to go to Oklahoma and do the rodeo situation, and then he’s going to come visit me in Charlotte,” Clarke said shortly after leaving the villa, describing what she expected their future to look like outside the show.
Taylor echoed that same commitment in a separate interview, telling TODAY, “[It’s] something that I see on the outside world, and something that I want to keep growing on the outside world.”
That commitment appeared to hold up for months, with the two still being counted among the small handful of Season 7 couples who remained together as recently as this spring, alongside pairings like Iris Kendall and TJ Palma.
Given how public and how well-documented their relationship has been since last summer, the current uncertainty marks a notable shift for two people who had, until now, largely been held up as one of the season’s success stories.
Whether Clarke and Taylor are actually done for good or simply navigating another rough patch in a long-distance relationship, neither of them has offered fans the clarity they are clearly hoping for, and for now, the rumor mill remains the only source willing to put a label on where things currently stand.
