He additionally drew laughs, and some groans, with a joke referencing rapper Nicki Minaj and the chaos during the April dinner disruption, a moment several outlets noted fell flatter with the audience than his earlier material.
Perhaps the most visually memorable moment of the night came when Trump donned a “Trump 2028” hat partway through his remarks, jokingly floating the idea of seeking a “fourth term” in office, a continuation of the lighthearted, roast-style tone he maintained through much of the evening.
Trump also addressed his relationship with the press more directly at another point in the speech, telling the room he plans to return to the dinner next year, though he added that decision could change “if you get really, really nasty,” drawing another wave of laughter from attendees.

The overall guest list for the rescheduled dinner was also notably smaller than in past years, a change attributed to the shifted date and revised security arrangements following the earlier disruption.
Despite the reduced scale, the event still drew heavy media coverage, with outlets across the political spectrum, from CNN and NBC News to Fox News and Breitbart, all covering Trump’s remarks in real time as they unfolded.
For Kennedy, the roadkill jokes add another chapter to a public persona that has long included colorful personal anecdotes involving animals, stories that predate his time in the Trump administration by years.
