Longtime Atlanta radio personality and former television host Big Tigger is facing serious criminal charges after a domestic dispute inside his Fulton County home turned violent.

Darian Morgan, the man behind the iconic on-air persona, was booked into the Fulton County Jail on Saturday morning on charges of battery, aggravated battery, and third-degree cruelty to children. He was released later that same day after posting surety bonds totaling $10,000.

Morgan built a celebrated media career over several decades, becoming a household name as the longtime host of BET’s “Rap City” and a cornerstone personality at Atlanta’s V-103 radio station.

His arrest has sent shockwaves through the entertainment community, as fans and colleagues process the allegations against a figure widely regarded as one of the most respected voices in hip-hop broadcasting.

The charges against him are among the most serious a public figure in his position could face, carrying implications not only for his personal life but for his professional standing in an industry where reputation matters deeply.

What Court Documents Reveal About the May 9 Incident

According to an arrest affidavit, the alleged incident took place on May 9 at the couple’s residence on Jett Ferry Road. Morgan’s wife told investigators that a verbal dispute over text messages found on his phone escalated into a physical confrontation.

She stated that Morgan tackled her to the floor in an attempt to retrieve his cellphone before she moved to the basement office to unplug a computer.

Morgan allegedly followed her into the office, grabbed her by the arms, and forcefully shoved her toward the exit. The force of that push caused her to fall headfirst into an office door, resulting in a deep laceration above her left eye that required numerous stitches.

Court documents note that the injury left visible disfigurement a full month after the incident occurred.

The entire altercation was captured on an interior Ring security camera. That footage has since become a significant piece of evidence in the investigation that ultimately led to Morgan’s arrest.

Hospital Visit and the Discovery That Triggered Police Contact

In the immediate aftermath of the alleged assault, Morgan drove his wife to an urgent care facility in Dunwoody, where he reportedly told medical staff she had tripped and fallen.

Medical personnel, however, grew suspicious due to the severity of the head injury and the fact that Morgan’s wife refused to speak. She was subsequently transported to Grady Memorial Hospital for further treatment, and staff contacted law enforcement.

When investigators later asked Morgan’s wife why she had not cooperated with police on the night of the incident, she told them she feared retaliation. She also expressed doubt that anyone would take her account seriously, stating she believed her husband’s celebrity status would shield him from accountability.

Morgan is a well-known media personality in the Atlanta area, where he has spent much of his career.

Sandy Springs police officers formally arrested Morgan after launching an investigation on June 9. The arrest represents the culmination of a weeks-long probe that began with that initial hospital call.

The Child Cruelty Charge and Morgan’s 13-Year-Old Son

Beyond the battery charges, Morgan also faces a misdemeanor count of third-degree cruelty to children. That charge is connected to the couple’s 13-year-old son, who was upstairs in the home during the altercation and reportedly heard the physical confrontation take place.

Under Georgia law, a child’s exposure to domestic violence in the home can form the basis for a cruelty-to-children charge, even when the child is not the direct target of the violence.

Morgan posted a $9,000 bond for the aggravated battery charge and a separate $1,000 bond related to the child cruelty charge, bringing his total bond amount to $10,000. It is also worth noting that Morgan and his wife welcomed a son in 2025, when he was 51, adding another layer of complexity to the family circumstances surrounding the case.

Morgan’s Prior Denial and the Road Ahead

This is not the first time Morgan’s name has been linked to a domestic dispute involving his wife, Alicia Brown. A previous incident in May drew attention after Brown sought medical treatment for injuries before police were contacted, and an investigation was launched. Morgan publicly addressed those earlier allegations, categorically denying the claims at the time.

In a prior statement, Morgan said he appreciated the support and concern from fans and asked for privacy as his family worked through what he described as a difficult moment.

He added that he intended to continue living in a manner worthy of the trust placed in him throughout his career. Whether that statement will carry any weight in light of the current charges, which are supported by court documents and security footage, remains to be seen.

A request for comment regarding the latest arrest had not been returned as of the time of publication.
