King Charles Opens the Palace Doors to Harry and Meghan, But Will They Walk Through?
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle might be packing their bags for the UK this summer, and King Charles is reportedly ready to roll out the welcome mat.
King Charles has offered royal accommodations for Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and their children amid news that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s family plans to visit the U.K. together for the first time in four years, according to PEOPLE.
The timing lines up with something big. Next month marks the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027, the adaptive sporting event Harry has championed for over a decade. If this trip actually happens, it would end a four-year stretch during which Meghan and the kids stayed far from British soil, and that alone makes it worth paying attention to.
Let’s talk logistics first, because that is where things get interesting. Harry and Meghan are planning to bring their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to the U.K. in July, marking Archie and Lilibet’s first trip there as a family since 2022.
Prince Harry has returned to the U.K. several times since stepping back from royal duties, but Meghan and the kids have stayed away. So this is not just another solo Harry visit. This is the whole family potentially showing up together, which is a much bigger deal.
King Charles Made the Offer, Now Everyone Is Just Waiting

Here is the part that has royal watchers buzzing. PEOPLE reports that King Charles has offered his younger son and his family accommodation on a royal estate, though there has been no response to the offer so far. This is not the first time Charles has extended an olive branch like this, either.
On previous occasions, the monarch offered Harry accommodation at Buckingham Palace, and Harry declined. That history matters here. It tells you this is not a simple yes-or-no situation; there is clearly more going on beneath the surface, and that brings us to the real sticking point.
The Real Issue Has Never Been About Bedrooms
Even if the offer gets accepted, there is a catch that has nothing to do with palace real estate. Even if Harry and his family stay at a royal residence, there would be no additional security provisions, since those are decided by the Home Office.
After Harry and Meghan stepped back from their royal roles in 2020, they lost their tax-funded police protection, a matter Harry has fought in court to have reinstated, citing safety concerns in his home country. This is not a small detail. Harry has been blunt about why this matters so much to him, and his own words make that clear.
In a statement to the High Court in London, Harry said the U.K. is his home and is central to his children’s heritage, and that he wants them to “feel at home” there the way they do where they currently live in the United States, but added that this cannot happen if there is no way to keep them safe on U.K. soil.
He did not stop there either. Harry said he cannot put his wife in danger like that, and given his experiences in life, he is reluctant to unnecessarily put himself in harm’s way, too.
That is about as direct as it gets. Security is not a footnote in this story; it is basically the whole plot.
Would Harry and Charles Actually Meet Up?

According to PEOPLE, no reunion between Harry and King Charles during this potential visit has been confirmed, but father and son have crossed paths during Harry’s U.K. trips before.
They last reunited on September 10, 2025, at the King’s London residence, while Harry was in town for the WellChild Awards and Invictus Games events, and the two spent 55 minutes together privately, marking their first in-person meeting in 19 months. That meeting alone tells you the door has not been completely shut, even with everything else going on.
Harry has been fairly open about wanting things to improve. He told the BBC last year that he would love to reconcile with his family and that there is no point in continuing to fight.
Then he said something that landed harder than anything else in that interview. Harry said life is precious and he does not know how much longer his father has, seemingly referencing the King’s cancer diagnosis announced in 2024, adding that his father will not speak to him because of the security situation, but that it would be nice to reconcile.
That quote changes the whole tone of this story. This stopped being about scheduling logistics a while ago.
So, Where does that leave things Heading into July?
Nobody has confirmed whether Harry and Meghan will accept the King’s offer, and nobody has confirmed a sit-down between Harry and his father. What we do know is that the clock on Charles’s health is something Harry has acknowledged out loud, and that changes how every future visit gets read by the public.
Whether or not this particular trip leads to a reunion, the bigger story here is a family running out of time to figure out what reconciliation actually looks like, and that story will keep unfolding long after July ends.
